Consider this situation...
You go to a very nice hotel with your friends to have dinner. After eating a substantial portion of rice, you discover a dead cockroach in it(yechh). You call the waiter & show it to him, and he profusely apologises and asks you if u'd like a replacement. You deny.
Later on, when the bill comes, you notice that the rice is included in the bill...
What do you do???

Create a scene and refuse to pay for it come what may..it's not abt money..its abt ur rights...
and chances are they WILL pay up or they lose their goodwill
First, I cannot take anything more from that Hotel.
Then walk upto the manager and tell him what happened and say politely I wont pay the bill. Then insist on having the entire rice thrown away and push to see if they do it right in front of me.....
If they even try to argue, seek everyone's attention and tell them what was in food.
I wouldn let them send me a bill itself,wouldn allow them to move from my table until they get me a proper solution.and wouldn pay at anycost,and sure would handle it to any extent but wont leave them

interesting....but what is the proper solution to this?
Is it spoiling the goodwill? Is it that you sh not pay, is it the apologies that need to be extended?
The fact is such a scenario doesnt have an acceptable solution by everyone.
True, apologies have to be made - mistakes in quality cannot be compromised, but putting urself in hotelier's shoes, should a goodwill earned after so many years to be lost just like that?

phantom,which goodwill r u talking abt,goodwill dosnt give u a choice of being careless,and ya,i wouldn mind if such a nice hotel being dragged into courts or food quality authorities also,Well,it depends in how u see it,and i am giving my opinion.And Coke or cadbury had to face it all being so negligent,today coke can never get back its reputation before the find.Cadbury had to struggle and rope in Amitab to get back the trust.U always have to pay for the negligence.Apology is not for ego,it is for the shock of life of seeing a dead coacroach.

I would blast the wits out of him and ask for his manager... Hotel is a service industry and I wud expect royal treatment no matter how small a customer I am. Ofcourse I would never pay for it.
I would also lodge a complaint through the feedback form they give at the reception. I can infact retain the cockroach as proof and sue them for a substantial amount. But am not sure if I would do that.
Btw, was the situation hypothetical or did you have an experience. What did you end up doing ?
